Objectives: This course aims to explore a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to modernizing the dental hygiene appointment through the integration of Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). It seeks to address the current oral health crisis in America by emphasizing the critical role of biofilm management in reducing both oral and systemic inflammation.
Methods: Through an in-depth review of the eight-step GBT protocol developed by EMS, participants will learn how to incorporate advanced biofilm detection and removal technologies into daily clinical practice. Case discussions and practical demonstrations will illustrate effective communication strategies, patient education techniques, and step-by-step implementation of GBT.
Results: Clinicians who have adopted the GBT protocol report improved clinical outcomes, increased patient comfort and satisfaction, and enhanced efficiency during hygiene appointments. The protocol has also been shown to strengthen the connection between oral and systemic health by effectively reducing biofilm-induced inflammation.
Conclusions: Integrating Guided Biofilm Therapy into the dental hygiene appointment represents a paradigm shift toward precision, prevention, and patient-centered care. By aligning dental hygiene with broader medical goals, clinicians can help mitigate the systemic inflammatory burden, elevate the standard of care, and redefine the role of the dental hygienist in promoting whole-body health.
